Commision on Higher Education- Philippine-California Advanced Research Institutes
The Village Base Station Project (VBTS) is a collaborative research project between the University of the Philippines and the University of California Berkeley (UC), with linkages to the University of Washington, University of California Davis, and Aurora State College of Technology. It is a project grant from the Commission on Higher Education, through the Philippines-California Advanced Research Institutes.
VBTS aims to deliver basic mobile telephony to a small number of remote barangays in Aurora Philippines. To date, seven pilot sites have been launched since Sept 2017, serving more than 1,500 subscribers.
